INTRODUCING “BARNLAND”

Barnland: Architectural Minimalism Meets Rustic Allure

Introducing the brand new series of prints released by artist Chris Mazzarella, "BARNLAND" unfolds as a cohesive visual narrative set in a realm where architectural minimalism marries rustic allure. Here, tall and narrow barns are the protagonists, elegantly forming miniature villages. Captured from a flat, front-facing perspective, these structures serve as the focal points against a pristine white backdrop. This minimalist canvas allows the barns' individual details and faded, subdued colors to come to the forefront. While each print in the series presents its own unique tableau of barn configurations, the foundational aesthetic remains constant—interplaying shades of pale blues, yellows, reds, and greens in a visual language that is simultaneously familiar and endlessly captivating.

Global Inspirations: A Tapestry Woven from the World's Most Colorful Cityscapes

In the "BARNLAND" series, the palette and architectural nuances draw direct, unabashed inspiration from some of the world’s most colorful and vibrant cityscapes. The series acts as a creative passport, taking viewers from the quaint, pastel-hued Jellybean Row in St. John’s, Newfoundland, to the iconic waterfront of Nyhavn, Denmark. From the medieval squares of Wrocław, Poland, to the Dutch-colonial facades of Willemstad, Curaçao; the sun-soaked shores of Procida, Italy, and the historic streets of Gamla Stan in Stockholm, Sweden. Each locale lends its essence to the rich tapestry of color and architectural form that defines "BARNLAND," making it more than a series of prints—it's a global expedition in art form.

Echoes of Artistic Pioneers: Where Artistic Legacies Converge

The "BARNLAND" series pays homage to a number of revered artists, echoing their contributions to the art world while establishing its own unique voice. One can discern Edward Hopper’s influence in the series’ appreciation for architectural simplicity and keen attention to lighting. The textural realism reminiscent of Christopher Pratt adds another layer of depth, while traces of Richard Estes and Robert Bechtle’s photorealism are also evident. In the interplay between these various influences, "BARNLAND" emerges as a convergence of styles—realism meets minimalism—offering viewers a multi-layered visual experience that rewards both casual observation and in-depth exploration.

Material and Craftsmanship: The Finer Details of an Artistic Presentation

No detail is too small in the presentation of the "BARNLAND" series. Crafted on 100% cotton Hahnemühle Photo Rag® 308 gsm, each print promises tangible quality and durability. This heavy, textured paper intensifies the vividness of each structure while providing a luxuriously matte finish. The prints are carefully framed in sleek and modern metal frames with a refined, slim 7/16" profile, complemented by 1/8" thick white archival mat board for a polished look. Each piece in the series is meticulously signed and numbered, signifying its limited availability and enhancing its exclusivity as a high-quality artistic offering.

By fusing these distinct elements—visual narrative, global inspiration, artistic echoes, and fine craftsmanship—Chris Mazzarella’s "BARNLAND" transcends the confines of ordinary print series, inviting nuanced interpretation and deep aesthetic appreciation.

“COLORBLOCK SERIES” | ARCHIVAL INK ON COTTON

Limited Edition Fine Art Framed Prints

These images are a curated collection of Chris Mazzarella’s graphically illustrated photography.

Chris designed these prints with his own signature color palette to coordinate as a series.

Each framed archival print in this series is signed and numbered.

The images are printed on 100% cotton Hahnemühle Photo Rag® 308 gsm. This is a very thick cotton paper with natural textures and a matte finish. The framed prints are mounted to a dense foam material allowing it to float inside the wood frame much like a wrapped canvas is displayed.

Note that these frames do not have glass. This gives the print an incredible look with the richest possible coloring and no glare. When you shine a light on these images the colors explode!

C.MAZZ FINE ART

“PASTURE” | OIL ON CANVAS

Part of Chris Mazzarella’s original series of conceptual works on canvas.

The works feature a strident figurative style with cartoon-like imagery. The series has been described as having “a precise and refined neo-expressionist aesthetic”.

Inspired by both the graffiti subculture of the 1980s and early post-modernist painter’s such as Hunt Slonem. The primary subject of these works is a wide-eyed cow, stacked one upon another in various configurations. The blank gaze of the huddled cows appears to communicate a message to the viewer. A contemplative viewing can lead one to imagine the cows as a deliberately huddled pasturing herd; or conversely, as an overly crowded penned-in group of livestock. Chris intentionally leaves the viewer to decide if the composition is either playful or provocative.
